Mammillaria hubertmulleri

  • First description by Reppenhagen, Kakteen und andere Sukkulenten 35 (8): 182 – 184. 1984

  • Body: Plants solitary. Stems globose to cylindrical, dark-green, to 50 – 300 mm high, 50 – 100 mm in diameter.
  • Roots: Fibrous.
  • Sap: With latex.
  • Now referred to: nunezii ssp nunezii
  • Tubercule: Conical, 10 -12 mm long and 6 – 8 mm in diameter, with rounded tips.
  • Axil: With short white wool and bristles.
  • Radial spine: 14 – 22, smooth, bristle like, the upper ones shortest, white with sometimes brown tips, 2 – 7 mm long.
  • Central spine: 6, needle like, straight to slightly curving, the lowermost hooked and longer, brown to black, 5 – 15 mm long.
  • Flower: Bell shaped, carmine, to 20 mm long and to 15 mm in diameter.
  • Fruit: Club shaped, dark green or reddish with whitish base, to 30 mm long and to 6 mm in diameter, selfsterile.
  • Seed: Brown,1 mm long and 0,9 mm in diameter, hilum subbasal.
  • Flowering period in Cultivation (Europe): April – may.
  • Minimum temperature: 5 – 10? C
  • Habitat Substrate: Volcanic rocks, with humus soil.
  • Geographic Distribution: Mexico, Morelos, near Chinameca. Altitude 1350 meter
  • Comments: Hubertmulleri have a darker spination, less of radial spines and the fruit is darker green than nunezii ssp. nunezii.
