Mammillaria huajuapensis

  • First description by Bravo, Anales del instituto de biologia Mexico 25: 536. 1954

  • Body: Solitary, globular, sunken apex, 10 – 15 cm in diameter and 10 cm high, olive green.
  • Roots:
  • Sap: With latex.
  • Now referred to: mystax
  • Tubercule: 8 mm long and 8 mm wide on base.
  • Axil: With white wool and bristles.
  • Radial spine: 6 – 11, to 6 mm long, the uppermost shortest, white with reddish tips, awl shaped.
  • Central spine: 2 – 6, 8 mm long but sometimes to 20 mm long, reddish brown with black tips, awl shaped.
  • Flower: Purplish red, funnelform, 20 mm long and 15 mm in diameter.
  • Fruit: Carmine, 25 mm long and 6 mm in diameter.
  • Seed: Brown, 1,2 mm long and 0,6 mm wide, .
  • Flowering period in Cultivation (Europe): April – mai.
  • Minimum temperature: 5 – 10?C.
  • Habitat Substrate: Humus soil in brushwood and between rocks.
  • Geographic Distribution: Mexico, Oaxaca, East of Huajuapan de Leon.
  • Comments: Huajuapensis has shorter central spines, smaller flowers and smaller tubercles as M.mystax.
